Full “Cold” Moon lunar eclipse in cancer

The first Full Moon of the year coincides with the lunar eclipse and is in its own sign, Cancer. Cancer is the embodiment of the sacred feminine, aligned with the tides of the ocean and the cycles of women’s fertility. It connects with the archetype of the Great Mother, underlining themes of home, tribe, belonging, ancestral roots, sustenance, sanctuary, and the unspoken emotional connections to the people in our life. Cancer wisdom teaches us about the need for boundaries as well as when it is time to retreat to take care of ourselves. When her daughter is kidnapped by Hades, Demeter retreats to the land of Eleusis. The shifting currents of this Full Moon may bring forgotten memories to the surface, not only our own, but whispers of ancestral memories passed down by the women who came before us. This is a good time to turn our attention to working with lineage, tradition, and the wisdom of the Grandmothers.

“Great Mother, give me the wisdom to know when it is time to retreat and to nurture not only others but also myself.”

Guiding goddesses: Demeter, Danu, Isis, Parvati -Danielle Blackwood
